Indigenous Rights in South America: FPIC and Other Key Issues for Natural Resource Development
On July 2016 Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation announced the publication of a new book, Indigenous Rights in South America: FPIC and Other Key Issues for Natural Resource Development, authored by leading mining and oil and gas practitioners in nine South American countries and Canada, and edited by our partner Juan Sonoda.
Indigenous Rights in South America includes:
• Key aspects of indigenous rights legislation from the perspective of extractive industries
• Coverage of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela
• Question-and-answer format: each chapter covers one country, reflecting the differences and similarities of the laws throughout South America
• Introductory chapter on the development of the concept of free, prior and informed consent (FPIC), its use internationally, and its implementation in Canada
The book is the first published by RMMLF on South America and written by South American practitioners.
