The political and economic investment context in Latin America in 2016 presents interesting news for foreign investors. The elections in Argentina by the end of 2015 that changed the strategic direction of the economy; Dilma Rouseff’s impeachment and the “car wash” affair in Brazil, the elections in Peru that empowered a candidate against all odds; the peace process with the FARC guerrilas in Colombia aiming at ending with a 50 year war; the stable scenario in Chile with the continuity of President Bachelet. A panel of experts in foreign investment featured Pedro Freitas (Veirano Advogados), Francisco Illanes (Cariola Diez Pérez Cotapos), Juan Sonoda (Beretta Godoy), Jorge Velarde (Rodrigo Elías & Medrano), and Manuel Quinche (Brigard & Urrutia), chaired by Federico Godoy, analyzed how these changes in the political and economic scenario present a new picture for investment and their practices before an audience of experts in Latin America from global firms, officers from mutilateral financial institutions and officials from the economic missions of the embassies of the represented countries. The seminar was held at the St. Regis on the occasion of the International Bar Association Annual conference in Washington that gathered professionals from all over the world.
